Steam cleaning specialist Proventec (PROV:AIM) has won a 14-month tender from the NHS Purchase and Supply Agency to become the sole provider of specialist steam cleaning equipment to help fight superbugs.

The agreement, secured through Proventec’s Osprey DeepClean subsidiary, is in direct response to the government’s £50 million of extra funding for deep cleaning in hospitals, and has an option of a further one year extension. Proventec’s technology is the only validated dry saturated steam cleaning technology that has 18-20 months of data to prove how effectively it kills superbugs such as MRSA and Clostridium difficile.

The machines can be used throughout the hospital on mattresses, beds, curtains, floors and walls, and unlike conventional deep cleaning, patients can stay on the ward while the cleaning is being carried out. Shares in the tiddler jumped 10% to 8.1p following the news.
