Mobile email and synchronisation company Synchronica (SYNC:AIM) has clinched a worldwide agreement with Brightstar, a global leader in distribution and supply chain solutions for the mobile industry. The deal concerns the distribution of Synchronica’s mobile push email and synchronisation technology, Mobile Gateway.

This technology is compatible with a range of mobile devices from manufacturers such as Nokia and Sony Ericsson, without requiring additional client software to be installed on the device. Through the agreement, a sales and marketing team will be created by both firms to help promote Mobile Gateway in more than 50 countries. So far, initial marketing has provided positive feedback and more than 15 opportunities with mobile operators are in active discussion or under trial. Brightstar, which has estimated annual gross revenues of $4.8 billion for 2007, serves numerous mobile network operators across the globe. The company is well recognised in the fast-growing emerging markets of Asia Pacific, Africa, India and Latin America, and also serves customers in North America, Europe and Australia.

This wide global spread will help to extend Synchronica’s geographical reach, and will provide numerous growth opportunities. ‘This is an outstanding validation of Mobile Gateway which provides an easy-to-use and affordable way for accessing email on mass-market mobile phones,’ says chief executive Carsten Brinkschulte.

Last month, the group said that trading for the year ending December 2007 was in line with expectations and it was forecasting a much reduced loss before tax of £3 million for 2007 – down from a loss before tax of £5.7 million in 2006. Revenues are expected to be double that of 2006, at £2.1 million. The shares were unchanged at 7.4p following the latest news.

Shares says: A deal which boasts great potential for Synchronica, but shares remain uninspiring.
