We have flagged up Afren’s attractions before. The west African-focused explorer has an excellent management team – chairman Dr Rilwanu Lukman is a former secretary general and president of OPEC, and is currently an advisor to the Nigerian government. This should be a landmark year for the company, the Okuru marginal field development in Nigeria is due come on stream in the next couple of months and the company has some exciting exploration targets to drill. The deep water Cuda well in Ghana, which is being spudded in the second half of the year, has the potential to double the current share price.
