Carnival (CCL) £19.15

The US cruise line operator is exposed to belt-tightening from the American consumer, the key component of the customer base. Up until now management has not flagged a slowdown and analysts fear the next quarterly results (pencilled in for Thursday 20 March) could bring some bad news. Mark Reed from independent broker Landsbanki believes a profit warning is on the way, if not next week, then soon. Any fall in revenues is likely to be amplified by the time it hits the bottom line as this company has high fixed costs that cannot easily be scaled back. Rising oil prices are a further threat.
