The Fund aims to achieve long term capital growth over a three year rolling period by investing in attractive markets and sectors on a worldwide basis. The investment policy is to invest in shares, warrants, bonds, money market instruments, cash and deposits, directly or indirectly through collective investment schemes, that can best take advantage of economic opportunities worldwide. As a result, the Fund may not always have exposure to all asset types. Derivative and forward transactions may be used by the Fund for Efficient Portfolio Management.
Andrew Dalrymple aged 49, holds a Bachelor of Arts with honours in Economics from Cambridge University and joined the British Army in 1981, he began his career at Cazenove & Co where he became a member of the Asian equity sales desk. In 1987 he joined James Capel & Co, broking Asian equities to UK and European institutions before being transferred to James Capel (Far East) Ltd in Hong Kong in 1991. He remained in Hong Kong for almost eight years working for SG Warburg and UBS Warburg from 1992-1998 broking Asian stocks to institutions throughout the region Andrew joined Stewart Ivory in 1998 and in 1999 he established the Global Opportunities Fund, now the First State Global Opportunities Fund, which remained his signature fund throughout his tenure at First State Investments. Since inception (July 1999) through July 2006 the fund rose 105.4% compared to a rise of 3.4% in the MSCI World Index. Andrew is also a non-executive director of the Artemis Alpha Trust.
