Charifund is designed to provide a growing level of income for UK charities, while at the same time protecting their capital from the effects of inflation over a rolling ten year period. It aims to provide a level of income that is significantly higher than that of the FTSE All-Share Index. The level of income may vary and there is no guarantee that the trust will achieve a positive return over this, or any other, period. The trust is a well-diversified portfolio of approximately 100 holdings, mainly high yielding UK company shares. While the trust will generally have a bias towards stocks that are out-of-favour with investors, the fund manager seeks to identify good quality companies with attractive dividend growth prospects.
Richard Hughes joined M&G in 1986. He is a UK equity income fund manager with responsibility for the management of Charifund, the M&G Extra Income Fund and the M&G High Income Investment Trust. Richard previously worked for Derbyshire County Council where he was manager of its pension fund. He graduated from Sheffield University with an honours degree in accounting and economics. He is an associate of CFA UK.
Richard Halle joined M&G in 1999 as a sector analyst focusing on insurance. Since 2002, he has been managing various institutional mandates on a European value strategy, and in 2008, he was appointed fund manager of the M&G European Strategic Value Fund upon its launch. Before joining M&G, Richard worked as a security analyst for the Sedgwick Group. He graduated from the University of Natal in South Africa with a bachelor of commerce and is a chartered financial analyst (CFA) charterholder.
