Next reported that its brand sales were 3% ahead of last year, but full price sales were down -0.3% on a comparable week basis.

Directory performed significantly better than retail mainly as a result of improved stock availability, enhanced website functionality and continued growth from LABEL and overseas.

Profit before tax declined 1.5% to £342.1 million for the half year to the end of July.

Underlying earnings per share (EPS) rose 0.8%, which was boosted by the effect of share buybacks.
