City of London Investment Trust's net asset value per share rose by 3.1% in the year to the end of June compared with a 2.3% rise in its benchmark, the AIC UK Equity Income sector.
The FTSE All-Share Index rose by 2.2% in the period while the UK Equity Income OEIC sector fell by 1.7%.
Chairman Philip Remnant said: "In a flat year for equity returns our NAV total return was 3.1%, ahead of our sector and market benchmarks. We passed a major milestone in becoming the first investment trust to increase its dividend for the 50th consecutive year."
