Wall Street got off to a mildly upbeat start to the last trading session of the week, extending yesterday's positive turn and mirroring gains registered across Europe.

Cautious investors woke up to find themselves having to asses the likely impact of the surprise outcome of the UK general election.

Shortly after the open, the Dow was up by 0.27% at 21,238.69, the S&P 500 was 0.18% higher at 2,438.24 and the Nasdaq was unchanged at 6,321.52.


Early risers on the Dow included Goldman Sachs, JP Morgan and Caterpillar, with all stocks up by as much as 1.6%, while Nike and Microsoft were heading south.

On the Nasdaq, NVIDIA was prominent to the upside. The company's shares were 4.2% to the good.


At 2:40pm (GMT), WTI crude was 0.07% higher at $45.68 per barrel and Brent was up 0.08% at $47.9 per barrel. Gold was 0.88% lower at $1,268.3 per ounce.


Monthly wholesale inventories data is due later today.
