Wall Street got off to a cautious start to trading, tracking an equally tepid performance on European markets, as the euro and dollar slipped while commodity prices were on the up.
Shortly after the open, the Dow was down 0.03% at 23,532.17, while the S&P 500 was up by 0.01% at 2,587.97 and the Nasdaq by 0.17% at 6,776.03.
European markets were also mixed during the afternoon session, with the FTSE 100 up 0.03%, while the Dax was down 0.12% and the CAC 40 was 0.22% lower.
WTI crude oil was 0.23% higher at $55.77 a barrel and Brent crude was up 0.51% at $62.40.
Gold was up 0.26% at $1,272.50 an ounce and silver gained 0.39%.
Copper was 1.23% higher.
Releases regarding economic optimism and consumer credit are due later today.
