The FTSE 100 is expected to open around 9 points lower as UK Prime Minister Theresa May heads to the House of Commons to address divided MP's over the latest amendments to her flagship European Union withdrawal bill.

OVERSEAS MARKETS

In the US overnight, the Dow closed 0.49% higher at 24,504.8, the S&P 500 added 0.15% to end the day at 2,664.11, while the Nasdaq finished 0.19% lower at 6,862.32.

In Asia this morning, the Nikkei 225 was down 0.44% at 22,765.2, while the Hang Seng was 1.03% higher at 29,090.6.

COMMODITIES

WTI crude was 0.67% higher at $57.52 per barrel and Brent was up 0.93% at $63.93 per barrel.

Gold was 0.35% firmer at $1,246.1 an ounce, silver was up 0.46%, while copper was largely unchanged.

LONDON MARKETS

Interim results are expected from Cohort, Dixons Carphone, OPG Power Ventures, Purplebricks and Residential Secure Income.

Trading statements are due to be released by Serco and John Wood Group.

Meanwhile, Avanti Communications and Infrastructure India are to host shareholder meetings.

In economic news, the latest unemployment data is due to be released today.
