UK markets to open flat as City winds down for Christmas

The FTSE 100 is expected to make a quiet start to trading as the pre-Christmas slowdown continues in London.
In the US overnight, the Dow closed 0.15% lower at 24,754.75, the S&P 500 fell 0.32% to end at 2,681.47 and the Nasdaq eased by 0.44% to 6,963.85.
In Asia this morning, the Nikkei 225 was recently up 0.14% at 22,900.55 but the Hang Seng was off by 0.04% at 29,243.00.
WTI crude was 0.33% higher at $57.75 per barrel and Brent was up 0.16% at $63.90 per barrel.
Gold was 0.21% firmer at $1,266.80 an ounce, silver was up by 0.11% but copper was down 0.11%.
Shareholder meetings are to be hosted by AFI, Avation, British Empire Trust, Creo Medical, Green Dragon Gas and Webis, while final results are due from EG Solutions and Idox.
In economic news, realized sales data from the CBI is due late morning.
