The FTSE 100 is expected to open broadly unchanged on the last trading day of with the week, with a two point decrease forecast by financial spread betting firms.
The blue-chip index fell 43 points yesterday as traders opted to lock in profits, a trend which impacted markets throughout Europe.
Meanwhile, Prime Minister Theresa May continued talks in her attempt to tap into the Chinese market.
Corporate news today includes results from pharmaceutical giant AstraZeneca along with trading updates from mining groups Gem Diamonds and Vedanta.
In the US overnight, the Dow ended 37.32 points higher at 26,186.71, while the S&P 500 eased by 1.83 points to close at 2,821.98 and NASDAQ finished the session 25.62 points weaker at 7,385.86.
In Asia this morning, the Nikkei 225 was 191.42 points lower at 23,294.69 heading into the close.
The Hang Seng was up 19.97 points at 32,662.06 but the Shanghai Composite was 14.92 points lower at 3,432.06.
At around 6:05am, WTI crude was 0.47% higher at $66.11 per barrel and Brent was up by 0.29% at $69.85 per barrel.
Gold was 0.15% higher at $1,349.9 per ounce, silver was up 0.12% and copper by 0.34%.
