In early trading the FTSE 100 is up 0.4% to 7,410.90 after gains overnight in Asia.

Free-to-air broadcaster ITV (ITV) gains 1.5% to 177.7p as it nabs EasyJet (EZJ) chief executive Carolyn McCall. The low-cost airline, where McCall has been at the helm for seven years, is down 0.7% to £14.01. McCall will take up her new role in January 2018.

Glasgow engineering firm Weir (WEIR) is up 6.7% to £19.47 as it says full year revenue and operating profit in its oil and gas business will be at the upper end of analysts' estimates after a recovery in North American markets.

Centrica (CNA) and German city utility Stadtwerke München (SWM) are to combine Centrica's European oil and gas exploration and production business with Bayerngas Norge to form a new joint venture.

Centrica will own 69% and Bayerngas Norge's existing shareholders, led by SWM and Bayerngas GmbH, will own 31%.

The gas-focused venture will comprise Centrica's assets in the UK, Netherlands and Norway and Bayerngas Norge's assets in the UK, Norway and Denmark. Centrica ticks up 0.5% to 207.3p on the news.

Construction services business Carillion (CLLN) is appointing accountancy firm EY to support a strategic review after a major profit warning rocked its share price last week. The shares are up 4.7% to 58.8p but still down substantially on the 190.1p they traded at before the warning.
