Food products tiddler Science in Sport's (SIS:AIM) recent rally continues, the shares bid up 3.8% to 69p on news the micro cap will become the Official Sports Nutrition Partner to Liverpool Football Club for the 2016/17 season.

This latest win for the AIM minnow will boost global brand awareness in the sports nutrition market and demonstrates the efficacy of investment in product innovation and in broadening distribution across all channels.

Hatton Garden-headquartered 'SiS' makes and markets sports nutrition products for professional athletes and sports enthusiasts alike. Its 'SiS' brand of energy powders, isotonic gels and protein-based recovery powders is already a strong brand in the elite athlete community; Olympians Sir Chris Hoy and Katarina Johnson-Thompson are brand ambassadors, while Mark Cavendish is the company's Elite Sports Consultant.


Manufacturing Informed-Sport tested and accredited products from a factory in Lancashire, SiS will work closely with Liverpool FC, bossed by Jurgen Klopp, the demanding German coach who favours a high-energy pressing game, to create bespoke nutrition plans to fuel the club's squads for training, match day and recovery.

'Nutrition plans will be tailored for each player across Liverpool FC's First Team, Academy and Ladies teams and will include a wide range of SiS products, from its SiS GO Isotonic Energy Gels to the SiS Protein range,' reads the announcement.


SiS' CEO Stephen Moon is 'delighted that we will be partnering with Liverpool FC this season - not only as their official sports nutrition partner but also working with them on developing and testing a number of innovative products that we have in our launch pipeline.'

This is an exciting time for SiS, now the official sports nutrition supplier to USA Cycling. The Rio Olympics and Euro Football Championships will have generated a sales boost for the company, which is not only the official sports nutrition supplier to professional cycling teams Team Sky and Team WIGGINS, but also the official supplier of sports drinks and sports nutrition to the GB Rowing Team.


In an encouraging half-year update (21 Jul), Science in Sport flagged 24% sales growth to £6.48 million for the six months to June, highlighting particularly strong growth via its own site, from third party online retailers and from international markets. Moon also stressed the company's 'strong financial position with over £6.5 million of net cash, leaving it well placed to exploit further growth opportunities as they arise.'
