Shares in video games developer Team17 (TM17:AIM) gained 2.5% to 743p after the company said its recently acquired subsidiary StoryToys had partnered with LEGO and Marvel Entertainment to launch a new educational mobile app for pre-schoolers.

The new Lego Duplo Marvel app is carefully aligned with the Headstart Early Learning Outcomes Framework to ensure it meets the developmental needs of two-to-five-year-olds.

The app will launch in December and initially be available in 28 languages with more to follow in 2022, while it can be pre-ordered on Apple app store and Google play. It will be free to download and include additional content to purchase.

The focus is on encouraging learning and developing maths, creativity, reasoning and problem-solving skills by engaging with well known and loved characters.

Emma O’Neill, chief executive of StoryToys, commented: ‘Preschoolers adore and aspire to be Marvel heroes and this app will offer them a positive digital experience tailored to their abilities.’

Katie Cousins at Shore Capital said: ‘The group’s venture into edutainment along with its core video games exposure appears a differentiated play within the sector and we anticipate further operational and financial progress for TM17.’
