URA Holdings PLC on Wednesday celebrated progress at the Gravelotte emerald mine in South Africa, as it looks to restart work at the site.

The Africa-focused mineral exploration company told investors that ‘significant’ on-site work had been completed.

Operational updates included the upgrade of water supply and water storage capacity available for processing operations; the completion of site security upgrades and electrical fencing; and establishing, rehabilitating and upgrading of the main haulage roads between the open pits and processing plant.

Engineering drawings have also been completed to upgrade the existing processing plant and include an additional crushing and milling circuit as well as a vibrator to increase throughput.

‘Although we are fortunate to already have significant historic mine infrastructure in place the infrastructure still needs to be repaired and upgraded as part of the restarting of mining and processing operations,’ said Chair Edward Nealon.

‘I would like to thank our team on the ground in South Africa for all their hard work and dedication to get us ever closer to restarting mining operations on a very tight budget.’

URA Holdings shares were trading 3.2% higher at 2.58 pence each in London on Wednesday morning,
