Totally PLC on Monday its urgent care division has been awarded a new contract worth £10 million per year from NHS England to provide national NHS 111 contingency services.

The Derby, England-based frontline healthcare services, corporate fitness and wellbeing services provider said the contract will begin from March 1 for an initial one year with the option to extend for a further year.

The contract was specifically awarded to Vocare Ltd, which is part of Totally’s urgent care division.

It said NHS England commissioned the support to provide additional call handling and clinical capacity to ‘help alleviate some of the pressures’ on local NHS 111 services.

NHS 111 provides over-the-phone healthcare advice and information on access to urgent and emergency care.

Totally said Vocare is a long-term provider of regional NHS 111 services, with the new contract providing additional flexible capacity, which can be precisely targeted where and when needed.

‘Totally has significant experience providing quality, resilient and responsive regional NHS 111 services. Our services have provided essential access to core healthcare services as demand has risen beyond the level anticipated by commissioners,’ said Chief Executive Officer Wendy Lawrence.

‘This new contract re-affirms Totally as a core partner in the delivery of NHS 111 services and moves to recognise the new normal in which healthcare providers are operating, providing essential additional capacity into the system.’

Shares in Totally were up 2.5% to 36.11 pence each in London on Monday at midday.
