SRT Marine Systems PLC on Wednesday told investors that a new vessel monitoring and inspection co-ordinating system contracted and previously announced in November is now operational.

SRT Marine Systems is a Somerset, England-based provider of maritime domain awareness systems and technologies for surveillance, security, safety and environmental protection.

The system is owned and operated by a single national coast guard, and uses a basic tactical version of the SRT-MDA system to deliver a single platform integrating basic vessel tracking and identification information across multiple national agencies.

It was contracted to SRT in November, with an expected end-to-end delivery period of six months. The initial deployment phase was completed in January, with operationalisation of the system undertaken in the subsequent months.

‘The modular flexibility of the SRT-MDA System enables us to accommodate both tactical and strategic needs of customers to suit their present-day operational and budget requirements, whilst also delivering a future proof platform which can expand over time. This Coast Guard has taken its first steps with SRT on its strategy to build its own independent maritime surveillance and intelligence capabilities in order to deliver significant increases in operational effectiveness and efficiency,’ said Chief Executive Officer Simon Tucker.

SRT Marine Systems shares were trading 1.0% higher at 44.95 pence each in London on Wednesday afternoon.
