Powerhouse Energy Group PLC on Thursday celebrated as its European patent application regarding the treatment of waste material was allowed.

Powerhouse is a Bingley, England-based hydrogen-from-waste-plastic producer.

It told investors that its European patent application for the ‘Method and Apparatus for the Treatment of Waste Material’ has been ‘allowed’. This means that the application will now be progressed towards a full grant on payment of the applicable fee.

The patent relates to protection around the control of the heating of the waste within the thermal conversion chamber over several zones to allow the optimum synthesis gas to be produced.

This allows the temperature profile in the chamber to be adjusted to give the optimal syngas composition.

‘This is an important step for the company in establishing itself as a major developer within the waste processing sector. The patent application being allowed is a key step to having the patent fully granted, which adds value to what PHE can offer to its clients,’ said Acting Chief Executive Officer Keith Riley.

Powerhouse Energy shares were trading 2.1% higher at 0.44 pence each in London on Thursday morning.
