ITM Power PLC on Wednesday said that it intends to further collaborate with W. L. Gore & Associates Inc, enhancing their mutual understanding of proton exchange membrane water electrolysis performance.

ITM Power is a Sheffield, England-based designer and manufacturer of electrolysers for green hydrogen production. Gore, meanwhile, is a Delaware, US-based manufacturing company which specialises in products derived from fluoropolymers.

The collaboration will focus on enhancing the companies’ understanding of proton exchange membrane water electrolysis performance over lifetime, durability mechanisms and reliability.

The proton exchange membrane serves as an ion permeable barrier within each cell, which separates hydrogen and oxygen, and transports protons from the anode to the cathode.

‘We are delighted to elevate our collaboration with Gore to the next level. Their understanding of membranes and their product quality and reliability are market-leading, and by forging ahead with this alliance, we are further cementing our technology leadership whilst at the same time ensuring that a key part of our supply chain is future-proof as we scale up,’ said Chief Executive Officer Dennis Chulz.

ITM shares were trading 4.1% higher at 96.74 pence each in London on Wednesday morning.
