Solid State PLC on Monday said it has won a contract with Transport for London, to deliver a new one person operation CCTV system on the Piccadilly line with the London Underground train network.

Shares in the Worcestershire-based computing products manufacturer were 4.5% higher at 1,139.50 pence on Monday morning in London.

The new digital system will allow for real time internet protocol video images of the platform edge, which can be transmitted to in-cab screens for driver awareness.

Steatite, which is Solid State’s manufacturing division, will provide custom-designed computers for use on the trains and within the wider station-based system, while the carrier boards with display outputs will be designed by Steatite’s Imaging business Active Silicon.

The firm provided no financial details of the contract.

‘We are very excited to be involved in this project. By drawing on Steatite and Active Silicon’s technical prowess, this is a superb example of our ability to utilise multiple skill sets within the business to overcome complex challenges, and to design, test and implement a world-class solution,’ said Matthew Richards, managing director of the Systems division.
