Solid State PLC on Monday said it has been awarded a £7.3 million contract by the Nato Support & Procurement Agency to supply communications equipment to a defence customer through its Systems division.

Delivery of the equipment is expected within the current financial year, and Solid State said this will contribute towards achieving current market expectations.

Solid State is a Redditch-based supplier and design-in manufacturer of computing, power, and communications products.

Matthew Richards, managing director of the Systems division, said: ‘In our [annual general meeting] statement we referenced the strength of the defence sector, so it is pleasing to be announcing this award with such a significant client. The group has a good reputation in the delivery of high reliability technology for ruggedised applications, so this customer requirement fitted very well.’

Solid State shares fell 0.6% to 1,253.00 pence on Monday afternoon in London.
