InterContinental Hotels Group PLC on Tuesday said it has promoted Michael Glover to chief financial officer, with effect from March 20 next year.

The FTSE-100 company said Glover has been with InterContinental Hotels for 18 years and currently serves as CFO of the Americas and group head of Commercial Finance.

He succeeds Paul Edgecliffe-Johnson who had announced his intention to retire back in October. Edgecliffe-Johnson will step down as CFO on March 19 and become the CFO of sports betting & gambling company Flutter Entertainment PLC.

Chief Executive Officer Keith Barr said: ‘Michael is an outstanding candidate for the position of chief financial officer. He has enjoyed a stellar career at IHG over the last 18 years, where he has demonstrated his excellent breadth of financial acumen, global expertise and commitment to our purpose and values. His knowledge of the key operational and commercial elements that underpin our business and drive our performance will ensure seamless continuity as we deliver our strategic priorities and growth ambition.’

During his tenure with the business, Glover has held several roles at group and regional level, including CFO of IHG’s China region from February 2013 to September 2015, at which time he came group financial controller.

In his most recent role as the CFO of the Americas, the company said Glover has continued the focus on ‘strengthening returns for IHG’s hotel owners and demonstrated a passion for bringing to life IHG’s Journey to Tomorrow responsible business plan’.

He began his career at the US’s Halliburton Energy Services in 1995.

IHG shares were up 0.3% at 4,977.00 pence each on Tuesday morning in London.
