Capita PLC on Thursday signed two contracts worth a total of £565 million to deliver functional assessment service assessments in the Midlands and Wales for the Department for Work & Pensions, and in Northern Ireland for the Department for Communities.

The London-based provider of business process services was selected as the preferred bidder for the two new contracts in May.

Capita said the two contracts are worth a combined £565 million and will run for five years from 2024, with an additional option to extend for a further two years. The DWP contract is worth £453.3 million and the DfC contract is worth £111.4 million.

FAS is a new service that will bring together existing assessment services, for disabled people and people with health conditions, under a single provider in each geographical region, the company explained. This will make accessing support simpler and easier for some of society‘s most vulnerable people.

Capita has been delivering personal independence payment assessments in the Midlands and Wales since 2013, and in Northern Ireland since 2016.

Shares in Capita rose 3.0% to 17.40 pence in London on Thursday.
