US markets eased in early trading on Monday as the outcome of the UK general election, Brexit, the French election, along with ongoing Trump issues continue to contribute to the recent volatility across the pond.

Shortly after the open, the Dow was down by 0.18% at 21,233.94, the S&P 500 was 0.32% lower at 2,423.9 and the Nasdaq fell by 1.25% at 6,130.23.


The standout early riser on the Dow was General Electric, its shares up almost 5%, while Apple was down by just over 3%.

On the Nasdaq, Viacom and Discovery Communications were leading to the upside, to the tune of around 3% apiece. Lam Research and Netflix were both lower by a similar amount.


At 2:40pm (GMT), WTI crude was 1.44% higher at $46.49 per barrel and Brent was up 1.5% at $48.87 per barrel. Gold was 0.33% lower at $1,267 per ounce.


The latest Federal budget balance reading is due this evening.
