The FTSE 100 is expected to open 13.7 points higher at 7,724.40, according to the spread betting firms, in a week packed with key Christmas trading updates from the retail sector.

AO World is due to report numbers on Monday, WM Morrison on Tuesday, Sainsbury's and Ted Baker on Wednesday and Marks & Spencer, Tesco and ASOS on Thursday.

Meanwhile, Prime Minister Theresa May is widely expected to re-shuffle her cabinet, looking to strike a balance between Brexiteer's and remainer's, while maintaining support on the back benches.

OVERSEAS MARKETS

After a week of daily gains, the Dow Jones added a further 220.74 points (0.88%) on Friday to end the week at 25,295.87.

The broader-based S&P 500 added 19.16 points (0.70%) to end at 2,743.15 and the tech-heavy NASDAQ gained 58.64 points (0.83%) to 7,136.56.

Asian markets were mixed this morning.

The Nasdaq is closed for Coming of Age Day and remains unchanged at 23,714.53.

Heading into the close, the Hang Seng was 48.32 points (0.16%) lower at 30,766.32 and the Shanghai Composite added 16.25 points (0.48%) at 3,408.00.

COMMODITIES

At around 6:15am, West Texas Intermediate was up 0.15% at $61.53 per barrel and Brent was 0.10% higher at $67.69 per barrel.

Gold was 0.28% softer at $1,318.60 an ounce, silver was down 0.64% and copper was 0.14% lower.
