Shares in Filtronic (FTC:AIM) gained over 3% to 169.50p in morning trading as the designer and manufacturer of advanced RF (radio frequency solutions) announced a new defence contract win worth £13.4 million.
The contract will involve the supply of high-performance modules for an electronic sensor system to be built and tested at the company’s new secure and highly automated hybrid microelectronics facility in Sedgefield, County Durham.
Nat Edington, CEO at Filtronic said: ‘Aerospace and defence remains a key sector in our growth strategy, and this latest order reflects Filtronic’s proven track record of successful project delivery, collaborative partnerships, and manufacturing excellence.’
The company is no stranger to contract wins, over the past year it has benefited from successive tie-ups with SpaceX, Elon Musk’s rocket and spacecraft maker, which has contributed to a stellar 123% share price gain in 2025.
The communications kit designer latest win successfully capitalises on the current boom in the European aerospace and defence sector.
GROWTH MARKET
Katherine Thompson director at research firm Edison said: ‘With increasing defence budgets across Europe, this sector represents a strategic growth market for Filtronic.
‘As shipments are expected to fall beyond our current forecast period, we will review estimates when full year 2025 results are reported on 29 July.’
Dan Coatsworth, investment analyst at AJ Bell said: ‘Radio frequency solutions firm Filtronic has surged higher in the last 18 months, largely propelled by contracts secured with Elon Musk’s Space X, so news of a fresh contract win with a different client was well received.
‘The deal with a defence contractor helps demonstrate that Filtronic is not just a one-trick pony.’
