SMALL-CAP - WINNERS

Hochschild Mining PLC, up 2.32% at 86.35 pence, 12-month range 50.40p-95.55p. The miner updates on its 100%-owned Volcan gold project in the Maricunga Region of Chile. CEO Ignacio Bustamante says ‘a significant amount’ of work has been achieved at the site, pointing to the updated mineral resource estimate, the positive preliminary economic assessment, and the $15 million financing agreement. With gold prices remaining ‘strong’, Bustamante says the firm believes in the ‘significant value’ of the project.

SMALL-CAP - LOSERS

Sabre Insurance, down 2.7% at 147.00p, 12-month range 80.77p-152p. The motor insurance underwriter falls back, despite a generally solid showing for the stock, which is up 38% in the year-to-date. Earlier this month, it said interim reported pretax profit fell to £4.8 million for the six months that ended June 30, down from £8.6 million a year before, as net earned premium declined by 7.4% to £71.8 million from £77.5 million. Gross written premium rose by 8.4% to £99.5 million, however, with the company expecting them to be 15% to 20% ahead of 2022 in the year as a whole.
